MAKANA WONG CERAMICS

Makana is a local boy from Kaimuki who discovered his passion for ceramics in his junior year at Kalani High School nearly 20 years ago. After completing his Fine Arts degree from Pacific University and Secondary Education program at UH Manoa, Makana began his career as the ceramics instructor at Moanalua High School, where he currently serves as the head of the ceramics and AP 3D Studio Art program. Makana also enjoys teaching at local community studios including the Hawaii Potter’s Guild and Hickam Arts and Crafts Center.

Makana draws inspiration from his poi dog heritage (Okinawan-Chinese-Japanese-Hawaiian) and focuses on functional forms. Beyond ceramics, his most recent endeavor has been learning how to keep up with his newborn son.
